PUTRAJAYA: Those living in orange and red zones have been advised to stay at home, after Malaysia again registered four-digit new daily Covid-19 cases today.

"If we were to look back on action taken in the Klang Valley, we enforced the CMCO (Conditional Movement Control Order) after one district, Klang, was declared a red zone.

"These were among the proactive measures taken after conducting risk assessment which saw a high R-naught (R0) in the Klang Valley due to the density and mobility of the population.

"We should be more proactive in taking actions and not wait for every district to change to red zones before implementing the CMCO," Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told a press conference today.

He said the government goes into high alert once a district is designated as an orange zone, with 21 to 40 registered Covid-19 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said the government might need to continue tightening CMCO SOP, while still allowing the economic, education and sport sectors to operate in the hope of reducing the population's mobility.

"We should go back to basics; those living in orange or red zones should stay at home. If you need to go out and attend to urgent matters, please make sure to comply with the SOP.

"This is the only way to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in the community. Every one of us must work together and comply with the SOP. If there is no space for the virus to be transmitted, it will die on its own after two weeks."

A total of 1,054 new Covid-19 cases were registered today, bringing Malaysia's tally of infections to 34,393, including 10,135 active cases.

Dr Noor Hisham earlier said that infections in Sabah, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan make up 82.6 per cent (909) of today's new cases; and that more Covid-19 screenings will be conducted in areas placed under CMCO.
