Two reports lodged over Ketari rep’s ‘CMCO picnic’

Police are now investigating Ketari assemblyperson Young Syefura Othman for allegedly breaching conditional movement control order restrictions by having a picnic with several people.

Selangor CID director Fadzil Ahmat said the police have received two reports on the matter so far and investigations are ongoing under Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

The provision deals with disobedience towards any lawful order issued by any authorised officer.

Yesterday, Young Syefura had apologised after her Instagram posts drew the ire of netizens, who accused her of breaching conditional MCO rules.

Despite her apology, some are still insisting for her resignation, particularly since Young Syefura had previously called for Primary Industries and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali’s resignation over the latter’s alleged breaches of Covid-19 related restrictions.

Meanwhile, elaborating on one of the police reports received, Fadzil said the complainant first saw one of Young Syefura’s photos on Twitter, and then found a total of nine photos on her Instagram account that are believed to have been taken at Bagan Lalang beach near Avani Gold Coast Sepang Resort.

For the record, the photos have since been removed from the Instagram account.

“According to the complainant, Selangor is currently under the conditional MCO where such activities are not allowed.

“The complainant also said this is not the first incident involving politicians, and the recurrence of such incidents have angered the people because no action is taken against politicians whereas ordinary folk who breach standard operating procedures will have action taken against them immediately,” he said in a statement today. - Mkini
