COVID-19 | A conditional movement control order (MCO) will be imposed on the Mukim 12 subdistrict in southwestern Penang from Nov 6 to 19, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
In his daily briefing, he said the decision was made following advice from the Health Ministry which was then discussed by the National Security Council (NSC) at a special meeting today.
"The Health Ministry has recorded 35 positive Covid-19 cases there including 22 new cases today.
The area covered includes the Penang International Airport at Bayan Lepas, the Queensbay Mall, the Second Penang Bridge, the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone and housing areas in Batu Maung.
Ismail also said the enhanced MCO in the PPR (People's Housing Project) area of Taman Harmoni in Sandakan, Sabah would end tomorrow.
However, he said that the conditional MCO that applies until Nov 9 would still be in effect in the area.
Ismail also warned that employers who violate the order not to hold meetings in conditional MCO areas will be subject to punitive action including the issuance of compound fines.
Earlier, Ismail said 16 undocumented migrants were arrested and 10 land vehicles were seized yesterday under the "Ops Benteng" operation against the illegal entry of foreigners.
He added that police held 382 people for breaching the MCO rules yesterday, 18 of whom were remanded while 364 were issued compound fines. - Mkini
