Universiti Malaya (UM) today said they have launched a probe into a student group, which yesterday issued a statement telling the King not to meddle with national affairs.
"UM takes serious a statement published on Facebook by UM Association of New Youth (Umany) titled 'Yang di-Pertuan Agong Should Not Interfere In National Affairs'.
"It is to be stressed here that UM holds high respect for the royal institution. The university's top management condemns any statement that is against this principle.
"Thus, UM will conduct an investigation into this matter immediately," read a statement by the university's Corporate Communications Office.
In Umany's statement yesterday, they called for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to not meddle in national affairs, "but to always maintain a neutral attitude and play his role within the framework permitted by the Constitution".
The statement came in response to Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah's decision to reject a proposal by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to have a proclamation of emergency, and the King's advise to all parliamentarians to support the government's Budget 2021 Bill. - Mkini
