Penggerak Komuniti Negara (PKN) today lodged a police report against Perak DAP youth chief Steven Chaw on allegations that the organisation received a government allocation of RM8.6 million.
PKN chairperson Nor Hizwan Ahmad (above) said the report was made following an article by a local media portal quoting Chaw saying that the organisation allegedly received the funds and each committee member would get RM780,000.
"I vehemently deny the claims.
"I believe the same slander and lies have been circulated on social media seeking to tarnish our reputation as a non-government organisation (NGO) dealing a lot with the B40 community nationwide," he said.
Hizwan, who is political secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, said he suspected that the allegations were being circulated following the debate of opposition chief Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament who linked the funds with PKN.
He said the issue was being used as political capital by the opposition to tarnish the efforts of PKN as an NGO to help society.
He lodged the police report at the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Wangsa Maju district police chief Rajab Ahad Ismail, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed receiving the report.
