Bersatu wants Umno destroyed, stop trying to bring us together, says Najib

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has called for an end to attempts to bring Umno and Bersatu together again, as it has become clear Bersatu’s intention is only to bring down Umno.

This comes after Johor Bersatu information chief Mohd Solihan Badri said party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision not to contest in the upcoming state polls was so that he could focus on priming the party’s machinery to defeat Barisan Nasional, of which Umno is the largest component, and “end Umno forever”.

“Muhyiddin is of the view that the dominance of the BN government must end,” Solihan had said in a statement.

Responding to this, Najib said Bersatu’s intentions had been clear ever since Muhyiddin was allegedly caught on tape in the infamous “scheme of things” recording, which apparently featured the party president talking about inducing Umno to defect through promises of government and GLC positions.

“With the confession of Bersatu yesterday, I hope the Umno leaders who still want us to work with Bersatu will stop trying,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Allies in Muafakat Nasional who are still calling for us to accept Bersatu should also stop trying to persuade us.

“We do not understand why Umno needs to work with other parties and facilitate their desire to end us.” - FMT
