Cops to quiz Harapan Youth leaders over anti-Azam Baki event - lawyer

Harapan Youth leaders are among 12 individuals summoned for questioning by the police in connection with an event held in the run-up to yesterday's protest against MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.

Lawyer Kamil Munim said all 12 will be present at the Brickfields district police station at 2pm tomorrow over the 'Pentas Anak Muda' event held at Restoran Pak Amjal in Kuala Lumpur on Friday night, which called for Azam's resignation.

"I will be there tomorrow at 2pm to represent (activist) Adam Adli, together with lawyers acting on behalf of the others called," Kamil told Malaysiakini.

Kamil said he was present at the restaurant on Friday night (Jan 21) when the police, after the event, recorded the personal information of the speakers and those in attendance.

"I got a call from IPD Brickfields and was asked to inform the 12 individuals that they have been summoned," he said.

Aside from Adam, who was previously questioned in connection with information shared on the 'Tangkap Azam Baki' rally, the 11 others include youth leaders from Amanah, DAP, PKR, and Muda.

Separately, The Star reported Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim as saying that organisers of the 'Tangkap Azam Baki' rally yesterday will be identified to have their statements recorded.

Police previously said 16 individuals including five politicians have been summoned in connection with the rally but no organiser was identified as no formal notice was submitted for the protest as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

The protest, which was moved to Bangsar from Sogo amid a city-wide lockdown, saw some 200 people from civil society groups and political parties gathering for an hour-long march and brief sit-in, demanding actions against Azam. - Mkini
