There are no elections that PAS won't join - party veep

Even though PAS has yet to make any decisions regarding the upcoming Johor state election, its vice-president Mohd Amar Abdullah indicated they will be fielding their candidates as well.

Mohd Amar said PAS will hold a special meeting to discuss this matter at the central level.

“Usually, when there are by-elections or state elections, the party will call for a meeting.

“We have not made any decisions yet. Generally, based on past experience when there is an election, PAS will contest, but the number of seats is not certain.

“Usually, there are no elections that we won’t join,” he said when asked to comment on PAS’ preparations for the Johor snap polls.

He said this when met by reporters after the launch of the celebration for the Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic College (Kias) two-decade anniversary since its formation in Kota Bharu today.

It was reported yesterday that the Johor state assembly has been dissolved after getting the consent of the Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar yesterday, in order to pave the way for snap polls in the state.

Meanwhile, Mohd Amar said PAS will discuss with all relevant parties whether they will join the election via Perikatan Nasional (PN) or with Umno under Muafakat Nasional.

“We will discuss with everyone, as we did for the Malacca state elections where we discussed with everyone, even Umno, till the last second, but because no agreement could be reached, we were forced to contest under the PN banner.

“Because we were working to avoid three-cornered fights, that is our main fight among the three parties, so that PAS, Umno and Bersatu do not clash in elections. But it is hard to find the formula,” said Mohd Amar, who is also the Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar.

For the record, PAS had won one seat in Johor in the last general election, that is the Bukit Pasir state seat. - Mkini
