JOHOR BAHRU: Johor PAS leaders are hoping to meet their Umno counterparts on an understanding to face the coming state elections, the state PAS leader said today.
Johor PAS commissioner Abdullah Husin said the discussions would be held in the spirit of the Muafakat Nasional alliance between the two parties.
A meeting between the two parties was to be held today, but was cancelled because of the busy schedule of Johor Umno chief Hasni Mohammad. “Maybe we will meet in the near future,” he said, Bernama reported.
Ties between the two parties have turned frosty recently with Umno leaders accusing PAS of being closer to Bersatu, its partner in the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
Hasni, who is chairman of Johor Barisan Nasional, had said the state BN planned to contest solo in the state election.
However, Abdullah said he viewed Hasni’s statement as merely the opinion of local leaders. He said any decision whether BN would contest solo or otherwise would depend on the decision of national leaders of Umno and PAS.
He said there was still room for discussion under Muafakat Nasional.
However, Johor PAS was going ahead with its preparations for the elections with a 15,000-strong PAS election force to be mobilised. - FMT
