PETALING JAYA: Vote wisely, Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said today in an appeal to young voters, especially to 18-year-olds who will be able to cast their ballots for the first time at the coming Johor state elections.
In welcoming the participation of youths in elections, the former prime minister also said that if the coalition was given the mandate, PN would form a caring and upright government.
Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, also urged voters to adhere to SOPs which would be set by the Election Commission.
“I would like to welcome new voters, including those above the age of 18, who will be exercising their democratic right for the first time in the Johor elections. Do so wisely,” he said in a statement.
It was reported that some 6% of the 2.5 million voters in Johor will be from the “Undi18 segment”, according to EC deputy chairman Azmi Sharom.
The latest electoral roll, which was gazetted earlier this month, includes those who turned 18 as of Dec 31.
Muhyiddin also said the coalition would hold negotiations to finalise seat allocation.
The Johor state assembly was dissolved on Saturday. The EC will meet on Feb 9 to fix the dates for nomination and polling day. - FMT
