June date for Syed Saddiq’s RM1.12mil CBT trial

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman affirmed his ‘not guilty’ plea today when the CBT and money laundering charges were read to him before the High Court.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has fixed 22 days to hear Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s RM1.12 million criminal breach of trust (CBT) trial over Bersatu election funds.

Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan fixed the hearing dates when Syed Saddiq’s case came up for mention today, The Edge Markets reported.

The trial dates are June 7 to 10, 20 to 22 and 27 to 28, as well as July 4 to 8, 13 to 15 and 18 to 22.

The former minister also affirmed his “not guilty” plea when the CBT and money laundering charges were read to him before the court.

During today’s proceedings, Zaini reminded Syed Saddiq not to comment on his court case.

He claimed trial last year before the sessions court on two charges of misappropriating a total of RM1.12 million in Bersatu election funds.

Syed Saddiq was slapped with another two counts of money laundering involving a total of RM100,000 before the Johor Bahru sessions court.

This case was transferred to Kuala Lumpur upon an application by the prosecution.

Syed Saddiq was allowed to move his CBT and money laundering cases to be tried before the higher courts on grounds that he wanted to raise several issues of law.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin appeared for the prosecution while Syed Saddiq was represented by lawyer Gobind Singh Deo. - FMT
