Pas praises Azam's move to defend himself at press conference

KOTA BARU: Pas today praised Tan Sri Azam Baki for openly defending himself in a recent press conference.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, however, said this stance did not mean Azam was not guilty or that Pas was defending him.

"As Pas secretary-general, we cannot say he (Azam) is guilty or not.

"The important thing is that a person is innocent until proven guilty," he told reporters after handing over donation to several non-governmental organisations and clubs at his parliamentary service centre here today.

Takiyuddin, who is Energy and Natural Resources Minister, said Pas also welcomed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner's explanation on the allegation of stock trading.

"The statements given by Azam at the Press conference will be reviewed by the relevant authorities," he said.

Takiyuddin had said in a previous statement that Pas hoped Azam's explanation over the scandal would put the issue to rest, adding that the burden of proof now lies in the hands of the accusers. - NST
