PKR man mocks Mukhriz’s track record after remarks on Anwar

Hassan Abdul Karim (left) says Mukhriz Mahathir never went to jail for daring to speak up for the people, like the PKR president did.

PETALING JAYA: A PKR man has mocked Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir’s track record after his remark that opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was no longer in contention for the race to be prime minister.

This comes after Mukhriz said Anwar’s time had passed, noting that a lot of people have been saying this, including those within Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“It’s time for a new set of people to take over,” Mukhriz told BFM in an interview yesterday.

Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim reminded Mukhriz that he couldn’t even complete his stint as Kedah menteri besar, “not once, but twice”.

Mukhriz’s first term as Kedah menteri besar was from May 2013 to February 2016, and the second stint from May 2018 to July 2020. He stepped down on both occasions after losing the majority support in the state legislative assembly.

“Mukhriz has never held the post for a full term like other menteris besar.

“He said Anwar’s time has passed but today, Anwar is still the president of PKR, the chairman of PH and the opposition leader,” Hassan said in a statement.

He said he would not let his leader (Anwar), who sacrificed so much for the people and nation by going to prison for more than 11 years, be boxed in by Mukhriz who had never been jailed for daring to speak up for the people.

He also reminded Mukhriz that Pejuang only had four MPs compared with Anwar, who has more than 30 PKR MPs and more than 90 PH MPs in total.

“I do not like to say things like this but when Mukhriz dares to speak rudely, then he has to accept such harsh comments,” Hassan said.

In the interview with BFM, Mukhriz was asked if he had “any issues” with Anwar being PH’s prime minister candidate after he said Pejuang would not discount the possibility of a pact with PH.

When asked if he had ambitions to be prime minister, Mukhriz said: “I must be ready for any possibility.” - FMT
