PKR's use of its own logo in the forthcoming Johor state election will be a "litmus test" before Pakatan Harapan goes into the 15th general election, according to the party's deputy strategy director R Ramanan.
He indicated that a good outcome from the test may be used to convince other Harapan components into using the PKR logo in GE15.
"I think it is not accurate to say that we (Harapan) are not united when we made this decision (that PKR uses its own logo while Amanah and DAP use the coalition's).
"The public... some of them may look at it that way, but in reality, the citizens already know that PKR, Amanah and DAP are a family and we are working together.
"And this is also something that we can take as a litmus test for the next general election. I think, this way we can show the difference, if there is one to be seen," Ramanan said last night.
Malaysiakini had contacted Ramanan to shed some light on PKR's decision to use its "eye" for the party candidates who will contest for the Johor state assembly seats, instead of Harapan's "arrow" symbol.
'Use of PKR logo has been proven effective'
This, despite the other Harapan component parties having decided to stick with the opposition coalition's logo.
According to Ramanan, one of the reasons why the PKR leadership wants to use its own logo in the Johor polls is because the use of its own logo has been proven effective before.
The party believes that the rakyat can relate and connect with its flag better, and they have also seen the track record of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
"If PKR can show a really good performance, then maybe it would be a (good reason) for PKR leadership to convince others to use our logo in the (general) election.
"But, of course, it would still be up to the discussions among the presidents of the Harapan component parties," Ramanan added.
Yesterday, Anwar, who is also the opposition chief and Harapan chairperson, announced that PKR is set to use its own logo in the Johor polls.
The decision was made following a Harapan presidential council meeting at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
"With regard to our logo, a consensus has been achieved... PKR will use PKR's logo while the rest will use Harapan's logo," Anwar had said. - Mkini
