Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang has criticised the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for its alleged vendetta against Sungai Buloh MP R Sivarasa.
“A vindictive and petty MACC - as revealed by PKR MP for Sungai Buloh, R Sivarasa - is completely obnoxious and unacceptable and Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob must put a stop to the MACC from embarking on (a) personal vendetta against Sivarasa for speaking up in Parliament on Azam-gate,” said Lim in a statement today.
This comes after Sivarasa (above) claimed that the graft buster was retaliating against his service centre after he raised the issue of MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki's share ownership in the Dewan Rakyat.
Sivarasa revealed that his service centre’s manager KR Naveen, who is also his nephew, was summoned by the MACC last Friday (Jan 21) and was informed that he will be charged with a corruption offence over an incident four years ago.
The PKR lawmaker maintained that the allegation was false, malicious and without basis - deeming it to be a “personal vendetta”.
In the same statement, Lim suggested that the Sungai Buloh MP should lodge a report with the parliamentary rights and privileges committee on the matter.
“Why was the case resurrected after four and a half years?
“Ismail Sabri should ensure that the MACC is not used to pursue a ‘personal vendetta’ against Sivarasa for raising the issue of Azam’s ownership of shares in Parliament on Dec 4, 2021.
“I suggest that Sivarasa lodge a report with the Parliamentary Committee of Privileges concerning this MACC ‘personal vendetta’ against him for raising Azam Baki’s shareholding in Parliament as it is an infringement of the Houses of Parliament (Privileges and Powers) Act 1952 where an offender can be jailed by Parliament if a person guilty of contempt of Parliament failed to purge himself of the contempt,” he said.
Previously, Sivarasa had filed an urgent motion seeking the Dewan Rakyat to discuss Azam's alleged ownership of close to two million shares in a publicly listed company.
He had alleged that between 2015 and 2016, when Azam was the MACC's investigation director, he had become the owner of 930,000 shares in Gets Global Bhd as of April 30, 2015, and a further 1,029,000 shares as of March 31, 2016.
The MP also claimed that, as of March 21, 2016, Azam also owned 2,156,000 warrants in public-listed Excel Force MSC Bhd, while his younger brother owned 3,728,000 shares in Gets Global.
Sivarasa had noted that public servants are barred from owning more than RM100,000 worth of shares in any company.
Public officers are also required to declare all their assets to their heads of departments under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993. - Mkini
