Bukit Bintang Umno division chief Zainal Abidin Mohd Rafique has been appointed as Pharmaniaga Bhd's chairperson, replacing Shazalli Ramly who will be redesignated as the company's non-independent director.
According to a business daily's report, Pharmaniaga announced the changes, which will take effect on Feb 1, in filings it made with Bursa Malaysia today.
"The group did not elaborate further on the change.
"Incoming chairperson Zainal Abidin, who is the Bukit Bintang Umno division chief, holds several directorships currently, including in Boustead Petroleum Marketing Sdn Bhd, Clock Tower Hotel Sdn Bhd, and QI - pmc Sdn Bhd," reported The Edge Markets.
The daily also reported that Shazalli was appointed as Pharmaniaga's non-independent non-executive chairperson on March 1 last year, only three months after he was appointed as managing director of Boustead Holdings Bhd.
On the same day, Pharmaniaga also announced that it is redesignating independent director Zulkifli Jaafar as the company's executive director.
Pharmaniaga Bhd is a government-linked company that focuses on the distribution of pharmaceutical and medical products, and manufacturing generic pharmaceutical products, among others.
It is also the sole distributor of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine in Malaysia. - Mkini - Mkini
