What’s the logic behind seat demand, Umno veep asks PAS

Khaled Nordin says the seats that BN lost in the 2018 general election were also contested by PAS.

PETALING JAYA: An Umno vice-president has questioned PAS’ rationale in demanding for seats that Barisan Nasional (BN) lost in the last general election (GE14) after the Islamic party bemoaned the four it was offered for the upcoming Johor polls.

Khaled Nordin said the seats that BN lost in the 2018 general election were also contested by PAS.

“And they lost as well (to Pakatan Harapan). So, what’s the logic behind their demand?” he told FMT.

“PAS contested in 40 seats and they lost all but one,” he said of the Bukit Pasir seat which was previously held by Umno-BN.

Khaled was responding to a Malaysiakini report quoting PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man as saying that being offered four out of 56 seats was “not a good idea”.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS was only seeking seats that were not won by BN, especially those which were won by Amanah, a PAS splinter party and a Pakatan Harapan (PH) component.

Yesterday, it was reported that Johor PAS was seeking an understanding with Umno and BN on the impending state elections.

Prior to GE14, PAS held four seats in the Johor state assembly, but lost three to Amanah and one to Bersatu, which was also part of PH at the time.

The Johor state assembly was dissolved on Saturday. The Election Commission will meet on Feb 9 to set a date for the elections. - FMT
