KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall today closed the central market here following a spike of Covid-19 cases there.
Its mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip said they had also met with vegetable and fruit traders about the closure.
"The meeting was meant to explain to traders that the abrupt closure is made following an increasing number of positive cases at the market.
"At the same time, it will also allow City Hall to do cleaning and disinfection to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at the market," she said in a statement.
Noorliza added that traders were allowed to enter the market from 5am to 8am to get their goods prior to the cleaning work.
Yesterday, Sabah recorded 3,333 new Covid-19 cases with 591 from the city. - NST
