Hajiji wraps up quick visit to Sarawak counterpart

Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor met with his Sarawak counterpart Abang Johari Openg yesterday as a delegation from Sabah flew in to boost ties between the two Borneo states.

Hajiji said the one-day visit was aimed at exploring new areas of cooperation between the two Bornean states which are regional partners in the Federation of Malaysia.

“Sabah and Sarawak have many similarities in terms of culture, history and struggles. Hence, there are many synergies to harness for our common good.

“As members of the MA63 Special Council chaired by the prime minister, we have cohesively worked together to push for the momentous passing of the Federal Constitution Amendment 2021 relevant to the Malaysia Agreement 1963, last year,” he stressed.

He also congratulated Abang Johari on the landslide win secured by the GPS coalition in December, when it bagged 76 out of 82 seats in the Sarawak state election.

Hajiji was accompanied by his three deputies Bung Moktar Radin, Jeffrey Kitingan and Joachim Gunsalam as well as Sabah state assembly speaker Kadzim Yahya, and Sabah state secretary Safar Untong.

Hajiji said he and Abang Johari were long-time friends and colleagues, and he looked forward to greater cooperation between the two states. - Mkini
