'I don't lie' - Muhyiddin declines Zahid's dare

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has declined his Umno counterpart's challenge for him to take a sumpah laknat.

He said this is because he was not lying about Zahid coming to his house with a pile of documents asking for help with the latter's corruption case.

"I will not swear the oath because I have not lied," he told reporters in Putrajaya today.

A sumpah laknat is an oath beseeching God to curse those who are in the wrong.

Muhyiddin had during a ceramah in Tangkak on Feb 16 claimed that Zahid had, a few days after the Pagoh MP was sworn in as the prime minister in 2020, visited his home with piles of files regarding his court case.

He alleged that Zahid denied the charges, and asked for help. Muhyiddin refused.

Responding to the Bersatu president, Zahid said he was prepared to take a sumpah laknat to refute Muhyiddin's allegations.

"I had never visited Muhyiddin when he was the prime minister to ask his help to have my court cases dropped.

"What more bringing piles of files and asking to be let off as claimed," he said yesterday.

He also challenged Muhyiddin to take a sumpah laknat to back up his allegations.

Muhyiddin told reporters today that he had already named witnesses to the event, including PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, and Bersatu supreme council member Azmin Ali.

"It is his (Zahid's) right if he wants to swear or not swear (the sumpah laknat).

"I spoke the truth, when I speak to the public I don't lie. I have shown who witnessed the event," he said.

Zahid is facing 47 counts of money laundering, criminal breach of trust and bribery over tens of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi, a charitable organisation he founded.

He is also facing 40 charges of bribery involving more than RM43 million for the Foreign Visa System.

Muhyiddin had claimed that his refusal to help Zahid had led to his downfall as prime minister last year. - Mkini
