I passed report to Muhyiddin as he's NRC chair - Zafrul

Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has explained that the report given to Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin was passed to him in the latter's capacity as chairperson of the National Rehabilitation Council (NRC).

According to Tengku Zafrul, it was a report given to the NRC secretariat, like other reports given by cabinet colleagues, regardless of which party they represent.

"As the NRC chairperson, he needs those reports to make the right decisions in helping the prime minister lead Malaysia towards post-Covid-19 recovery.

"In fact, the economic facts contained in the report are facts that I have mentioned repeatedly to the cabinet and anyone in public.

"I have never hidden, either through media statements, my comments in forums, parliamentary answers and reports from agencies such as Bank Negara, the Statistics Department and so on," he said in a statement on Facebook today.

Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that Parit Sulong Umno Youth had lodged a police report urging Muhyiddin to be investigated under the Official Secrets Act after the PN chairperson promised to reveal the details of the report he received from Tengku Zafrul.

Muhyiddin had previously claimed that the country is in more financial trouble than the Umno-led federal government is letting on, and he would reveal the details in due time.

Commenting further, Tengku Zafrul said the public was aware of the current economic situation in the country, especially after the negative effects brought about by Covid-19.

But clearly, the main focus of the current government is to drive the country's recovery so that the people can return to live in comfortable standards.

"Generating jobs, bringing in investment, helping businesses are among the many strategies we have planned to drive this recovery through two key pillars: JaminKerja and SemarakNiaga in Budget 2022.

"I hope we can continue to place priority on economic recovery for the people. We are on the right track where economic activity, whether from a macro, business or individual perspective, is gradually recovering rapidly based on indicators such as the job market and so on.

"I am confident that we can recover according to plan and generate the economy and at the same time continue to bring confidence to investors to continue to come to Malaysia," he said. - Mkini
