Covid-19 (Feb 28): 75 new fatalities highest daily toll since late October

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 23,100 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 3,442,736.

Active cases currently stood at 293,499, up 60.5 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (6,098)

Kedah (2,782)

Johor (2,367)

Sabah (2,174)

Pulau Pinang (1,728)

Perak (1,335)

Kelantan (1,200)

Pahang (1,147)

Negeri Sembilan (1,032)

W.P. Kuala Lumpur (968)

Terengganu (756)

Melaka (575)

Sarawak (442)

Perlis (195)

Labuan (173)

Putrajaya (128)

Another 75 deaths attributed to Covid-19 was reported yesterday, of which 20 was declared as 'brought in dead'.

This is the highest number since Oct 28, 2021 when 95 fatalities were reported.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 991 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

Over the past week, an average of 51.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 26.4, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 32,749 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The state with the highest death toll was Selangor (22) followed by Johor (13), Sabah (11), Kedah (7), Perak (7), Kelantan (3), Melaka (3), Pulau Pinang (3), Terengganu (2), Negeri Sembilan (1), Pahang (1), Sarawak (1), Kuala Lumpur (1), .

There are 7,881 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 361 are in intensive care. - Mkini
