PETALING JAYA: Come Thursday, those travelling to Langkawi will no longer need to take a Covid-19 rapid test on the second, fourth and sixth day after their arrival, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.

The exemption for an antigen rapid test will also apply to those in the vaccinated travel lane (VTL) by land and air between Malaysia and Singapore, as well as business travel via one-stop centres (OSC).

He said the ministry will also do away with the requirement for individuals in these three categories to undergo a professional RTK-Ag test on the third and fifth day after their arrival.

Khairy said the ministry is dropping the need for travellers from the UK to take a rapid self-test throughout their quarantine.

“These new requirements are only applicable for travellers entering Malaysia via the VTL, OSC and Langkawi travel bubble programme ” he said in a statement, adding that the revised requirements will come into effect on March 3.

Khairy said short-term business visitors under the Malaysian Investment Development Authority will not require a liaison officer when entering the country via the OSC initiative.

However, Khairy said a Covid-19 test must be taken two days before leaving and entering Malaysia.

In December, the requirements for a self-test were put in place in light of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, which is reported to be more contagious, but less severe. - FMT
