Ex-CJ Richard Malanjum now UN Security Council’s Ombudsperson

 

Richard Malanjum served as the ninth chief justice of Malaysia from 2018 to 2019.

PETALING JAYA: Former chief justice Richard Malanjum has been appointed as Ombudsperson of the United Nations Security Council from yesterday.

The position was previously held by Kimberly Prost (2010 to 2015), Catherine Marchi-Uhel (2015 to 2017) and Daniel Kipfer Fasciati (2018 to 2021).

Prior to this appointment, Malanjum served as an adjunct professor in several universities in Malaysia and worked as a legal consultant and arbitrator.

He is also a trained mediator.

From 2018 to 2019, Malanjum served as the ninth chief justice of Malaysia.

From 2006 to 2018, he served as chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak.

From 1992 to 2006, Malanjum held various judicial positions, including as judicial commissioner, judge at the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak, a judge in the Court of Appeal, and subsequently in the Federal Court.

Before that, he was deputy public prosecutor and state counsel.

His office as Ombudsperson also comprises legal officer Wexels-Riser and research assistant Laura Bianchi. - FMT
