Muda moves operations centre after Johor GLC turns the screws

JOHOR POLLS | Muda has moved its Larkin election operations centre after a Johor government-linked company (GLC) moved to evict the party from there.

When contacted, Muda media liaison head Leben Siddarth confirmed the recent move.

"Yeah, we didn’t want untoward attention on this matter, so we decided to move," Leben told Malaysiakini yesterday.

He also revealed there have been no further engagements with the police following a report lodged by the Johor-owned PIJ Holdings Sdn Bhd, through its subsidiary PIJ Property Development Sdn Bhd.

"We are not in the wrong but we decided to concentrate on the campaign instead of such trivial issues," Leben said.

The GLC had last week publicly accused Muda of squatting on its premises and lodged a police report against the party.

The disputed location concerns Perbadanan Islam Johor's Inkubator Usahawan building in Taman Perbadanan Islam, Stulang Baru, located within the state seat of Larkin in the suburb of Johor Bahru.

‘Premises not for lease out’

PIJ Holdings had argued that the premises was not for the landlord to lease out as it was intended for the sale of furniture.

"We regret that it was not used for entrepreneurship purposes and more disappointingly, its use was without the knowledge, consent or an agreement between PIJ Property and Muda.

"We request that Muda vacate the premises and return the premises to us in good condition," it had said.

Muda did not make a formal announcement but has moved its Larkin election operations centre to Taman Abad.

Muda will hold its final ceramah at the venue tonight, which will feature the party's Parkin candidate Rasid Abu Bakar, Muda's Puteri Wangsa candidate Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and several others from the party. - Mkini
