Patients under investigation and persons under surveillance for possible Covid-19 exposure can vote in the Johor polls tomorrow, if they have permission from district health offices.
Voters who are showing symptoms related to Covid-19 will also be allowed to vote.
In a statement today, the Election Commission (EC) clarified that these voters will be allowed to vote in special tents.
“Voters with symptoms will still be allowed to vote in special tents monitored by health officials. They will be managed by a health officer for examination and further action.
“Meanwhile, voters with the Patient Under Investigation (PUI) and Person Under Surveillance (PUS) status who wish to vote must apply for permission from a district health officer and the District Health Office - who oversee the Surveillance and Observation Order - to go out temporarily to the polling centre.
“This permission is subject to infection risk assessment by the district health officer and voters must comply with all guidelines set by the Health Ministry,” said the EC.
A total of 1,021 polling centres and 4,638 channels will be opened tomorrow for voting purposes - with 49,290 officers on duty for the voting process tomorrow.
They are expecting 2,539,606 voters to cast their ballots tomorrow.
Observe SOP
The EC reminds all voters to observe standard operating procedures (SOPs) on polling day.
All voters are required to wear a face mask, use hand sanitisers and record their attendance as well as practice social distancing while voting.
Hand sanitisers will be provided at all polling stations. Voters are expected to use of hand sanitisers at four areas in each the polling station.
These areas are at the entrance of the polling station, at the entrance of the voting channel, inside the channel (following the process of dipping one’s fingers in permanent ink before receiving the ballot paper) and before leaving the polling station.
Election officials will be on hand to monitor the movement of voters to ensure that these guidelines are complied with throughout their time at the polling station.
