KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has backed party vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to remain as prime minister.
Party President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Ismail Sabri as the Prime Minister must take good care of the government, while he and the Umno's leadership will continue to strengthen the party.
"Datuk Seri Ismail please take very good care of the government. We give our support to our prime minister.
"Insya Allah, Tok Mat (Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan) and I, along with the party's leadership, we will take care of the party.
"We will strengthen the party, while Tok Mail (Ismail Sabri) will strengthen the government.
"We must go hand in hand, the government and the party must go hand in hand," he said in his policy address at the 2021 Umno general assembly this morning.
Meanwhile, Zahid said Umno members must have faith that the Barisan Nasional backbone can restore the glory of the country.
"The people have experienced and witnessed themselves under the leadership of the previous two governments."
He claimed many promises were made, but remained unfulfilled, including on toll abolishment and the National Higher Education Corporation Fund (PTPTN) loans, as well as the pledge to create one million job opportunities. - NST
