MACC probing 25 cases on Covid-19 management - Azam

The MACC is currently probing 25 cases related to the management of the Covid-19 pandemic by various government agencies, according to its chief commissioner Azam Baki.

Speaking to reporters in Putrajaya, Azam said the cases include face mask procurement and supply.

"We investigate various issues, so to protect the sensitivities of various parties, I'll just state that all are on Covid-19 management," said Azam, adding that several individuals have been summoned to assist in the ongoing investigations.

Azam stressed that the MACC is not focusing solely on the Health Ministry or reported claims of Covid-19 procurement corruption raised by former health minister Dr Adham Baba.

"That (Adham's claims) is one reason (for the probes) but I do not want to pinpoint to the Health Ministry or others," he said.

Asked whether the MACC will summon Adham who now heads the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, Azam said it would depend on the needs of the investigations.

"That is why I said earlier that there are 25 investigation papers on various issues, so not necessarily only the health minister will be called.

"We will see whoever is involved and call them," he added.

Adham was previously reported to have declared his readiness to cooperate with the MACC on its probe, including for clarification on any "confusions" from irregular procurement during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Court of Appeal judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali

'Probe on judge Nazlan completed'

On a separate matter, Azam said the MACC has completed its probe on Court of Appeal judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali over allegations of unexplained wealth, first raised by a politically-linked blog.

"We have completed our investigations and submitted it for scrutiny of the Attorney-General's Chambers and we're awaiting further instructions," he said.

The MACC has been accused recently of alleged intimidation against the judiciary over this matter.

Yesterday, Malaysian Bar president Karen Cheah Yee Lynn announced that lawyers will launch a peaceful "walk for judicial independence" on June 17 from Padang Merbok to the Parliament building. - Mkini
