Anwar hints Harapan unlikely to make way for Muda in incumbent seats

Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim today indicated that the coalition is unlikely to make way for Muda candidates in seats where there are incumbents from its own component parties.

Anwar also reiterated that discussions are ongoing within Harapan, with several related announcements expected to be made soon.

"As was explained before, discussions are being held within Harapan. There is progress in several states and it (results) will be announced in the near future.

"Following that, if there are further negotiations, if agreed to, for sure there will be room for discussions," he told reporters after attending a youth interaction programme hosted by Anwar Ibrahim Legislative Interns in Kuala Lumpur.

"But by convention in Harapan, seats already won by a party will remain with the party," the Port Dickson MP added.

Anwar said this when asked whether ongoing negotiations have taken into account Muda’s application to join the coalition for the 15th general election (GE15), including if there are requests for seats with Harapan incumbents.

The PKR president also reiterated that the Harapan presidential council will deliberate on Muda's application, based on various views including PKR Youth’s reported concerns.

"I have informed them (Muda) they can continue discussions with designated party leaders and that's ongoing.

"I don't think it is a problem to initiate discussions," he said.

Earlier today, Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, in response to PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim, had said her party is willing to initiate a formal meeting and answer questions arising from the party’s intention to join the coalition. - Mkini
