LAHAD DATU: A newborn boy was found abandoned at a food stall in Batu 5, Kampung Jaya Baru, Jalan Tengah Nipah, here this morning.

The baby, with the umbilical cord still intact, was found by the owner of the stall when he was about to open for business at 7am.

District police chief assistant commissioner Rohan Shah Ahmad said the baby, who was without clothes, was believed to have just been born and weighed 2.9kg.

"The baby was taken to Lahad Datu Hospital for a check-up," he said in a media statement today.
