GE15: Muhyiddin declares 'open war' against BN

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin has declared an open war against rival BN in the upcoming 15th general election.

He said all component parties in PN agreed upon this.

“PN will be supported by Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) when GE15 is held.

“I don’t want to discuss Pakatan Harapan, those are their matters. If they want to contest, they can. If Umno wants to contest all seats, go ahead.

“We in PN have an agreement, and among those agreed on is that our main enemy is BN,” he said at the sixth Bersatu anniversary celebration in Putrajaya today.

This was met with cheers from the crowd, which comprised Bersatu leaders from all levels and party members.

Muhyiddin added that PN was not afraid to go against BN in GE15, as it is important for PN to save the government.

PAS contradictions

This contradicts PAS’ stance earlier this week, in which its secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said that their "real" political enemies are Harapan and its "big tent" allies, not BN.

Takiyuddin said PAS believes a coalition that brings together the ummah is the most effective formula to foster national unity.

When quizzed by reporters on this later, Muhyiddin brushed it off, saying that such differences were “allowed” prior to GE15.

The Bersatu president has been trading barbs with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob recently after Muhyiddin said that Ismail Sabri should call for a general election if the premier continues to fail at managing the economy.

Alleged deal

In July, PN leaders also picked a bone with Ismail Sabri over his failure to fulfil his end of an alleged agreement with PN.

The reported agreement, said to have been inked in August last year, allegedly stated that PN would pledge its support for Ismail Sabri as prime minister in return for the deputy prime minister post to be given to Bersatu and Muhyiddin made minister mentor.

In his speech today, the Pagoh MP said that his coalition had supported Ismail Sabri with a view of working well together.

“Our role as a glorious political party movement has become more challenging. What we are able to do, we do.

“We made Ismail Sabri prime minister with hopes there would be cooperation and understanding.

“However, Umno will be Umno. They will continue to be greedy for power,” he said, adding that government positions in the administration were only given to Umno leaders. - Mkini
