Harapan top brass: Rafizi victim of police 'harassment'

Two top Pakatan Harapan leaders have urged the police to cease the alleged "harassment" of PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

This came after the seizure of Rafizi's mobile phone for investigation purposes.

In a statement today, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said the seizure was overboard.

"This is a form of intimidation against Rafizi's anti-graft efforts, similar to what happened to youths involved in the Turun rally," the opposition leader said.

Anwar urged the police to be "fair" and investigate Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Abdul Latiff Ahmad as well.

Rafizi had his statements recorded yesterday after Latiff lodged a police report against him.

Citing an internal investigation by Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Bhd (BHIC), Rafizi accused Latiff's spouse of being involved in the littoral combat ship (LCS) affair.

Latiff, who was the deputy defence minister when the LCS deal was greenlit, has denied the allegations.

‘Focus on LCS probe’

Meanwhile, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP deputy secretary-general Liew Chin Tong urged the police to focus on investigating the LCS controversy and not Rafizi.

The two were formerly the defence minister and deputy defence minister respectively which initiated special investigations on the LCS project.

These investigations were eventually declassified by the government on the advice of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which conducted its own investigations.

The LCS project was off schedule and there are doubts about whether the government can stick to the present RM9 billion budget.

In a joint statement, Mohamad and Liew said the authorities ought to be focusing on prosecuting those causing problems and not going after the whistleblowers. - Mkini
