If Dr M was at fault, so were Wan Azizah and other PH leaders, says Pejuang

PETALING JAYA: Pejuang has hit out at Anwar Ibrahim for blaming Dr Mahathir Mohamad for Pakatan Harapan’s failure to fully carry out reforms when it was in power, saying such accusations against the former prime minister were irresponsible.

Its information chief, Ulya Husamudin, said that during the coalition’s 22 months in power, it managed to fulfil 53 of the promises made in its manifesto.

He noted that in December 2019, then finance minister Lim Guan Eng had stated that 60% of PH’s election promises had been carried out.

Some of the election pledges, he said, had to be put on hold because of the nation’s weak fiscal position and economic challenges, which the PKR president had also acknowledged.

“Let’s not forget that when it comes to government matters, it is a collective responsibility.

“So, if Tun Mahathir is to be blamed, so too should Datuk Seri (Dr) Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail) and other PH leaders,” he said, referring to the former deputy prime minister.

Last night, Anwar said the PH-led government could not carry out reforms fully as it was led by a “non-reformist” leader.

He said Pejuang chairman Mahathir, in his stint as the seventh prime minister, had returned to racial politics which ran contrary to PH’s multiracial agenda, resulting in half-hearted reforms being carried out.

Ulya said Anwar merely wanted to absolve himself of all responsibility and was afraid of the “truth and reality”. - FMT
