PETALING JAYA: Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has reaffirmed his stance on the judiciary following Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s acquittal over his foreign visa system case.
Syed Saddiq, who is Muar MP, said that as an MP and a policymaker, it was important not to lose confidence in the judiciary.
“Similar to my previous stance, if we put faith in the judiciary in previous convictions, we should also have faith in the judiciary when it comes to acquittals,” he told reporters after a Muda dinner last night.
He said the Attorney-General could still appeal against the High Court decision to acquit Zahid of 40 charges of receiving bribes from a company contracted to operate the foreign visa system.
Syed Saddiq himself is standing trial on four counts of criminal breach of trust and money laundering. He is alleged to have misappropriated a total of RM1.12 million belonging to his former party, Bersatu. - FMT
