The MACC is investigating the involvement of individuals abroad in the misappropriation of 1MDB funds.
This follows a news report alleging that the investigation involves several individuals in Kuwait.
The MACC confirmed today that a probe is underway and as one of the main bodies in asset recovery efforts, it is focused on recovering assets and money lost as a result of the embezzlement of 1MDB and several other companies involved.
“Every action carried out in cooperation with foreign enforcement agencies involves a very complex and complicated flow of money.
“For the past two years, MACC has held a series of discussions with the Kuwait Enforcement Agency,” it said in a statement.
The MACC added that it was still waiting for information from the parties in Kuwait that was requested through joint legal assistance. The matter, however, is still under study by the Kuwaiti side.
The graft body said, in the meantime, as stated by the Attorney-General's Office on July 16, several settlements offered by fugitive Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, through his representative to the government have been rejected.
The MACC requested all parties not to make any speculation regarding the issue to avoid confusion to the public that would affect the investigation. - Mkini
