The Health Ministry is required by law to keep details of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's medical treatment confidential.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said details can be furnished to the court should a court order be issued.
"The Health Ministry has to ensure confidentiality under the Medical Act 1971. Details on a specific patient can only be revealed to the court if ordered to do so," Noor Hisham wrote on his Facebook.
He said Najib was treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) on Sept 12 after the former premier’s health condition became "tidak memuaskan" (unsatisfactory).
On Sept 14, the Kuala Lumpur High Court was informed that Najib was warded due to a blood pressure-related condition and could not proceed with the 1MDB trial.
Five days later, HKL referred Najib to the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH).
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin explained yesterday that Najib was transferred to the CRH in order to receive physiotherapy and learn how to do it himself.
Najib began serving his 12-year jail sentence on Aug 23 for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering.
This was over RM42 million found in his bank accounts. The money originated from state-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd, formerly a subsidiary of state-owned sovereign wealth fund 1MDB.
His hospitalisation and stay at CRH have generated controversy among those who felt he was avoiding prison. - Mkini
