No intimidation against Rafizi, phone seizure for analysis, says IGP

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli had given a statement to police over the littoral combat ships controversy on Saturday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have denied keeping PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s phone to intimidate him, saying it was part of the investigation process.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said it was part of the investigation process for offences under the Penal Code (Act 574) and the Communications and Multimedia Act (Act 588) to enable forensic analysis.

“The device will be returned after the analysis and investigation are completed,” he said in a statement last night.

Rafizi had been called to have his statement recorded on Saturday after a police report was lodged against him following his allegations against special functions minister Abd Latiff Ahmad over the littoral combat ships (LCS) controversy.

Acryl Sani said police had also taken a statement from Latiff after a report was lodged against him, and that both investigations were being conducted professionally.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim had urged the IGP earlier to stop pressuring and harassing Rafizi. - FMT
