PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari today said negotiations with Umno to avoid a clash with his party in the upcoming 15th general election can continue until nomination day.
Despite both parties now in opposing coalitions, Fadhli insisted that no one sounded the death knell on the Muafakat Nasional alliance, and PAS remains open to negotiations with Umno in up to 27 seats.
"We consistently said it is a must to continue negotiations to save the country from Pakatan Harapan.
"Maybe we will be asked, until when? The answer is until nomination day," he said during a press conference after closing the 63rd PAS Youth muktamar at a hotel in Alor Setar, Kedah.
"These negotiations will continue, particularly on 20 to 27 seats potentially to be won by Umno or PAS, if the two parties did not clash," he stressed.
Commenting further, Fadhli (above) said a proposed branding of the identified seats as "Muafakat Nasional seats" is a secondary issue to negotiations which must be kept going on.
"If it did not happen then there is a risk for Harapan to win, and then everyone (PAS and Umno) will lose out," he said.
Quizzed on details of the seats, Fadhli only hinted that it would largely be in Harapan-led states.
Previously, PAS central committee member Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki reportedly claimed Umno and PAS grassroots in the 27 seats have agreed to discussions to avoid a Perikatan Nasional versus BN clash with Harapan and others.
The 27 seats he referred to included 20 held by Harapan and seven others lost by Harapan by a slim majority.
Online portal Malaysia Gazette quoted Zuhdi, who coined the term “Muafakat Nasional seats”, as proposing the seven seats to be contested by its incumbents, while the other 20 can go to the party with the second highest number of votes. - Mkini
