SEREMBAN: The next general election (GE15) will prove to be an uphill task for Pakatan Harapan (PH), Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said today.
He admitted that his party too had its own issues to resolve before facing the election, which is expected to be held soon.
Mohamad, who is known as Mat Sabu, acknowledged that PH was facing various internal issues.
“There are still rumblings and issues in PH. With GE15 approaching, I want everyone to have a transparent approach and be involved in healthy competition.
“As for Amanah, it will not be good to disrupt the progress of the party, especially when the leadership is preparing to face a challenging general election,” he told reporters after opening the Amanah National Convention 2022.
Mohamad, who is Kota Raja MP, said discussions on the distribution of seats among PH component parties were expected to be resolved by the end of the month.
“Amanah wants to contest more seats in GE15, as opposed to the total of 27 seats it contested in the last general election in 2018 (GE14).
“The actual number cannot be revealed now but it would certainly be more than the last time,” he added.
Yesterday, Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said PH coalition parties had already decided on how 70% of the 52 seats contested by Bersatu in GE14 would be distributed among them. Negotiations on the rest are expected to be completed before Sept 30.
More than 800 delegates from all over the country are attending the convention which is scheduled to end tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Amanah ‘s party election that was supposed to be held by the end of this year has been postponed to 2024.
Party secretary-general Hatta Ramli said the application to delay the election has been approved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), adding that the party expects to hold it by June 2024.
“The move is to allow the party to focus on preparations for the 15th General Election (GE15),” he said. - FMT
