PKR Youth vice chief Atyrah Hanim cried intimidation after the police called her to give a second statement following a police report she had lodged on Aug 29.
Atyrah (above), who had lodged a police report on the RM9 billion littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal, was summoned to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 3pm today.
She arrived with lawyers Lau Li Leong and Sivamalar Genapathy, and the one-hour questioning took place soon after.
While the police said the questioning was a normal procedure, both lawyers claimed it was a form of intimidation against Atyrah.
"What was in the police report is already available in the public domain. The investigation should not take such a long time," Lau said.
This led Atyrah to question whether the delay was an attempt to protect certain individuals.
"Is the government doing this to protect certain individuals? We feel it is a form of intimidation," Atyrah alleged.
The PKR leader further claimed the police indicated they were questioning her and not the details of her report, adding the case has been transferred to Bukit Aman.
On Aug 29, Atyrah lodged a report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters against Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Abdul Latiff Ahmad over the latter’s alleged links to the LCS project.
She cited the Parliamentary Select Committee (PAC) report and the declassified forensic audit report in her police report.
In a series of exposé, PKR deputy president Rafizi accused Latiff and his family members of allegedly benefiting from the RM9 billion LCS project and other defence contracts during his tenure as deputy defence minister during the BN administration.
The former Pandan MP also insisted that Latiff has a wife named Zainab Mohd Salleh, who in turn, has been implicated in misappropriating funds from the LCS project.
Latiff denies claims
A declassified report sighted by Malaysiakini implicated someone named Zainab and mentioned that Latiff was her spouse.
"Thierry (Barrier) was holding one share, which he transferred to Latiff. It is noted that Latiff is the spouse of Zainab," read the 2019 audit report.
The forensic audit was ordered by Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Bhd (BHIC) and undertaken by Alliance IFA (M) Sdn Bhd.
It is the second of two audit reports that the cabinet ordered to be declassified on Aug 10.
Latiff has since denied the claims, saying he had no role in the LCS project and had no marital ties with anyone named Zainab.
Rafizi was subsequently called in for police questioning over this matter last weekend, where his phone was confiscated. - Mkini
