PSB looks to wrest urban Sarawak seats from DAP

Negotiations for seats in GE15 between Parti Sarawak Bersatu and DAP have broken down.

PETALING JAYA: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) is looking to challenge DAP for its urban seats in Sarawak, following the breakdown in negotiations between the two opposition parties.

PSB president Wong Soon Koh said there was no choice but to “fight it out” with DAP since it said that all its incumbents’ seats were non-negotiable.

“It looks like (DAP) never learned their lesson from the (December) state election. Let’s see what’ll happen because there’s no way out for us, otherwise PSB would be left with no urban seats,” he said in a report by The Borneo Post.

Wong said PSB would contest 10 to 12 parliamentary seats in GE15, adding that the urban seats will be distributed between PSB and other local parties like Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK).

He said PSB was working on forming a united front with other local parties, namely PBK, Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar), Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (Aspirasi) and Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB).

The state opposition leader also said this meant that DAP would face local-based opposition parties in every seat in Sarawak, on top of candidates from the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak coalition.

Wong also hinted that PSB’s newly elected secretary-general, Baru Bian, may contest the Lawas parliamentary seat in GE15 if he opted against defending his current Selangau seat.
