PSM seeks cooperation, open to using Harapan logo in GE15

PSM is once again seeking to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan to face the next general election.

The party's deputy chairperson S Arulchelvan (above) said informal discussions with the coalition have been ongoing for some time, and a formal letter applying to join the coalition was sent within the last two months.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, he explained that PSM members had asked the party in February to forge working relationships with Harapan, Muda, Warisan and Parti Rakyat Malaysia.

While nothing has been decided yet, Arulchelvan said the party wanted to avoid clashing in the polls and was open to the idea of using a single logo.

"I think we can comply, lah (with using Harapan's logo)," he said.

Harapan is expected to discuss membership applications by other parties during a meeting this afternoon.

Besides PSM, the youth party Muda has also expressed a desire to join the coalition but is facing resistance from PKR.

PSM has actually worked together with Harapan during the Pakatan Rakyat days.

Most notably, its current chairperson Dr Michael Jeyakumar had contested under the DAP and PKR logos in Sungai Siput from 1999 to 2013.

Jeyakumar won the seat, beating the late S Samy Vellu in 2008 and was re-elected in 2013.

However, PSM and Harapan could not come to terms prior to the 2018 polls, resulting in a clash for the seat - which PKR ended up winning. - Mkini
