Thunderstorms in northern states expected as typhoon heads to Vietnam

 

Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast from Wednesday to Friday in parts of Malaysia.

PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds are expected to occur in the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia as Typhoon Noru heads towards Vietnam.

The meteorological department said the thunderstorms would occur from Wednesday to Friday (Sept 28-30), Bernama reported.

Typhoon Noru has made landfall in the northern Philippines and is expected to move west towards Vietnam.

Following this, westerly winds are expected to increase in the country’s regional areas. Category 1 winds and rough seas are expected to occur in the waters off Sabah’s west and east coasts, as well as Labuan from today to Friday.

Wind speeds of 40km/h to 50km/h and waves of up to 3.5m-high are expected to occur.

Continuous rain was forecast for several areas in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan today.

The affected areas in Sarawak are Mukah, Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang.

Affected areas in Sabah’s west coast are Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud; interior areas include Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Kudat. - FMT
