Umno's leadership will evaluate a proposal for Umno to cooperate with PAS for 27 parliamentary seats.
According to Berita Harian, Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid said the proposal will have to go through the political bureau and supreme council first.
Mahdzir was speaking to reporters in Padang Terap, Kedah yesterday.
The proposal for Umno and PAS to cooperate for 27 "critical" seats came from PAS.
Prime Minister and Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob appeared receptive to the idea.
Ismail Sabri said Pakatan Harapan would have an advantage in the race for the 27 seats if Umno and PAS were to participate as well.
"Why should we give them a free win? We should consider the proposal," he said.
Officially, Umno has not shut the door on PAS as the Muafakat Nasional charter - a document designed to explore an electoral pact signed in 2019 - was still in force.
However, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been one of the most vocal critics of an Umno-PAS tie-up.
Zahid had blamed fraying ties between Umno and PAS on the latter's insistence on teaming up with Bersatu in Perikatan Nasional. - Mkini
