KUALA TERENGGANU: Twelve families who were affected by a fire that gutted a row of shophouses in Kampung Cina here last Sunday received initial assistance of RM1,000 from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The cash aid was delivered by the prime minister’s political secretary, Anuar Mohd Yunus, to each head of household involved to ease their burden.
Anuar said he would be discussing with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob about other forms of assistance to be given to the victims.
“I have come to express the prime minister’s sympathies to the victims over what happened.
“I understand that there was some initial aid channelled by the state government. However, I am here to deliver a small donation on the prime minister’s behalf,” he said after visiting the victims in Kampung Cina today.
Anuar added that he would also be discussing with the prime minister on how to help all the victims through relevant agencies as the shophouses were built on land with Temporary Occupation Licence status.
The 8.15pm fire destroyed 12 shops in Jalan Bandar, Kampung Cina, here including a clothes shop, restaurant, jewellery shop, and a motel. - FMT
