Warisan hints at former MCA president Ong joining its ranks soon

 

Warisan is dropping hints that former MCA president Ong Tee Keat will be joining their ranks soon.

However, Warisan vice-president Junz Wong and Ong are both coy about the development.

During a press conference yesterday, Wong confirmed that there would be VIP candidates joining the party and that an official announcement would be made by Warisan president Shafie Apdal.

"(The new members are from) both MCA and DAP.

"We don't care about their previous backgrounds, the most important thing is that they subscribe to the struggle and that the people can accept them," he said.

Pressed further on whether Ong had joined the party, Wong said they are "in contact" and that the former has not "officially joined" Warisan.

Meanwhile, Ong (above) declined to respond to "rumours" when contacted.

Previously, Shafie was reported by Oriental Daily as saying that whether or not Ong joins Warisan would be known "when the time comes".

Sin Chew Daily yesterday cited sources as saying that Ong may be fielded in his former constituency - Pandan.

Warisan is striving to expand outside its Sabah home base and has welcomed several former elected representatives into its ranks.

They include former Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun, former Penang state executive council member Danny Law Heng Kiang and Umno's former Kukup assemblyperson Suhaimi Salleh. - Mkini
