Wedding do: Nik Abduh’s request for services not power abuse - exco

A request made by Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Aziz to the Kota Bharu City Council (MPKB) for services during his children's double wedding on Saturday was not an abuse of power, according to a Kelantan state exco member.

Dr Izani Husin, who is in charge of the state housing, local government and health committee, said Nik Abduh had gone through the proper process to request assistance from the local council.

He told a news portal that every such application would be considered by MPKB, and should it be approved by the council, the applicant will have to pay a fee for the services.

"If it is approved, a fee will be charged. That’s the normal procedure," Izani said, as quoted by Free Malaysia Today.

Malaysiakini earlier reported that Nik Abduh confirmed receiving assistance from the local council and other state agencies in the double wedding of his son and daughter in Kampung Pulau Melaka, Kota Bharu.

The event was held at Masjid Tok Guru and Sekolah Menengah Agama (Arab) Darul Anuar. Among others, he asked for the council’s help to provide waste management services, tables, chairs, and flower decorations for the double wedding.

This comes after a letter from the PAS MP to MPKB requesting assistance had gone viral on social media. It had also prompted several opposition politicians to urge authorities to investigate the PAS leader. - Mkini
