Umno supreme council member Saarani Mohamad has refuted claims that party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's views do not represent the entire party leadership.
Speaking to reporters in Gerik, Perak last night, Saarani said Zahid only announces party policy after several rounds of discussion with other leaders.
"From my experience, prior to a supreme council meeting, there will be a political bureau meeting attended by the president, his deputy, three vice-presidents, wing chiefs and state leaders, including myself," he said, according to Berita Harian.
Prior to the political bureau meeting, Saarani (above) said the party president would first convene the "top five" meeting comprising the president, deputy president and three vice-presidents.
"Therefore, I would like to refute any suggestions that Zahid's pronouncements are his own because anything decided by the political bureau requires the endorsement of the supreme council," the Perak menteri besar added.
Yesterday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang told reporters that Zahid's views do not represent that of the Umno grassroots, who are still collaborating with PAS.
PAS has a policy of seeking an alliance with Umno and Bersatu, which are rivals.
However, over the past year, PAS allied itself with Bersatu and took on Umno during the Malacca and Johor elections. - Mkini
