Raja Sara Petra, the daughter of controversial political blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, has offered to contest for a Puteri Umno executive council position in the upcoming party polls to ensure the party remains relevant.
According to Raja Sara, who is currently the Batu Puteri Umno chief, she decided to contest as the party needs strong leadership to face the challenges that lie ahead.
"The people will become restless (resah) in the coming months, and we should have a winning formula to ensure the government's continuity. The government will not last long unless we can assure the people that Umno has strong leadership that can solve their woes.
"Puteri Umno can be made a force to be reckoned with to ensure the party remains relevant in the country's political arena. This would be my agenda and commitment should I be chosen in the exco line-up in Puteri Umno," Utusan Malaysia quoted her saying in a statement today.
It is worth noting that Raja Sara (above) was formerly aligned with Gerakan, before resigning as the party's deputy women's wing chief in 2019.
According to her, Umno's disastrous outing in the 15th general election (GE15) showed that the party needs to change to regain the people's trust.
"Umno has braved through many storms in the last few decades, but the latest and most damning is last year's.
"It would take more than trust for Umno to get back on its feet. The party would need strong leadership." - Mkini
