Amanah MP: Ramasamy sabotaging PM with civil service remarks

 

Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy’s calls for Anwar Ibrahim to break the Malays’ monopoly in the civil service is sabotage against the prime minister, said Amanah central committee member Mohd Sany Hamzan.

Sany said in a statement that what Ramasamy said is against Anwar’s Malaysia Madani policy and should not have been uttered as it would jeopardise the nation’s harmony.

“Once again, Ramasamy (above) is looking for trouble and attempts to be the hero of his race with cheap publicity.

“This sort of action will certainly put Pakatan Harapan in trouble.

“Harapan doesn’t need someone like Ramasamy,” Sany said.

The Hulu Langat MP also said DAP is often put in awkward positions by Ramasamy when he makes such remarks and urged the party to take action against him.

“This is not the first time he said things that put DAP in a difficult position.

“In my opinion, the most appropriate action is to fire him from the deputy chief minister post because I am sure there are many other leaders who are more competent to helm the position.”

Sany was referring to Ramasamy’s statement where the latter said the civil service is dominated by Malays due to alleged “policies implemented by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad”.

Ramasamy said on Facebook that the old argument in favour of Malay domination of the civil service to counterbalance the Chinese domination of the economy is no longer valid.

This, he said, was among the arguments used by Mahathir to institutionalise Malay hegemony in the public sector, particularly the civil service.

Meanwhile, Anwar distanced himself from Ramasamy’s call, saying it was the latter’s personal opinion and does not represent DAP or the federal administration.

Umno Youth secretary-general Hasmuni Hassan warned the DAP man not to stir up a hornet’s nest.

In a statement today, Hasmuni said the lack of non-Malays in the public service sector was due to low wages.

He said this is different from the Malay community who are more willing to serve the government out of a spirit of patriotism. - Mkini
